Cardio oncology is a new subspeciality in the field of cardiology that meets the increasing demand of cardiovascular care for oncology patients who are being treated for or have survived cancer.

In the past 20 years, effective treatments for various cancers help cancer patients to survive much longer than before.

Many of these cancer treatments may have short-term as well as long-term effects on the cardiovascular system, but as long as they are monitored by a cardiac specialist in close collaboration with the oncologist, most of these potential complications could be averted or treated if necessary.
